Implantation of cardiac devices

How to get your heart beating in time again

Here you can find out everything you need to know about the implantation of various cardiac devices. Would you like to find out more about pacemakers, defibrillators, resynchronization devices and subcutaneous event recorders? Then read on.

An evenly beating heart is vital. There are therefore a number of devices that compensate for an irregular heartbeat caused by cardiac arrhythmia or other diseases. A pacemaker is the device of choice to bring the heart back into the correct rhythm. This is usually done using electrical impulses (electrical shocks). The pacemakers are implanted on or in the heart.

Pacemakers are available in many different versions: most only send impulses when the heart does not do this on its own. They are available with and without wires and their probes are inserted into one or more heart chambers.
"Classic" pacemakers often "only" compensate for a pulse that is too slow. Defibrillators (ICDs), on the other hand, can do more: they detect dangerous cardiac arrhythmias and restore the heart to a normal rhythm by sending an electric shock to the heart muscle. Resynchronization devices (CRT) cause both chambers of the heart to beat at the same rate (synchronously) again.

Unlike the devices listed above, subcutaneous event recorders cannot emit pulses under the skin. They record unusual cardiac arrhythmias over a period of years. They allow patients to be monitored remotely so that they do not have to come to the clinic as often.

During a consultation before the procedure, we explain to our patients exactly how the procedure will proceed, what possible risks are involved and whether or not they need to stay in the clinic overnight. Of course, we also answer all questions in detail. The most important question, namely which pacemaker is best suited to the individual case, is usually already answered at this point. We also support our patients after the implantation and, for example, carry out regular checks on the pacemakers.

We accompany our patients from the first symptoms through to aftercare. You are in the best hands with us if your heart gets out of sync.
